NO SUGAR CHALLENGE!

Tomorrow begins the official NO SUGAR challenge. This special CrossFit Hendersonville challenge lasts for 1 week.  For one week, I am challenging each and every one of you to take away sugar for 7 days!

Whether you count artificial sugars, minor amounts of sugar, or even cutting down the amount of fruit you eat, is up to you for this challenge. We really want everyone to focus mainly on the sugary desert items – candy, cookies, cakes, deserts, etc. We all know we overindulge in them and ultimately become addicted to sugars.  Personally, if I eat sugar my body craves more and more and more sugar.  So, here is to 1 week of eating NO SUGAR, LESS SUGAR, WHATEVER AMOUNT OF SUGAR YOU NEED TO TAKE OUT OF YOUR DIET…DO SO!    I am going to conquer this challenge with you and take out all sugars.  My weaknesses are dark chocolate, vanilla almond milk, and Elana’s Pantry desserts(when I get in a baking mood).  We just might have to have a celebration party with some of Elana’s Pantry desserts next week.  Stay tuned for info on that!

Need some motivation to get you started this week?

Read this article by Steve Nash, “Live Sugar Free” in Men’s Journal.  What happened when he took away sugar?

Good luck everyone!!!!

Read more about sugars from Dr.Sears, here.  He discusses hidden names of sugar, the harmful effects of excess sugar, and how to curb your cravings for sugar.

SKILLS TESTING:

If you are close to completing the LEVEL 1 ATHLETE SKILLS TEST, remember this is your last week to do so!  All Level 1 Skills must be completed by Friday.  If you only lack a few more tests, get to the gym early, stay late, or come on a different day to get these done.  If you are having trouble with a skill, please let me help you this week!  Get to the gym early and we can practice.  Let me know early this week if you are in the contention for completing Level 1.

WEIGHTLIFTING:

There are  4 more weeks left of our strength training program we are doing before the daily workouts.  You guys are working really hard on getting stronger and it is fun to see all the gains from strength training we have had so far.  After this month, we will perform the CrossFit Total again.  Keep focusing on your technique during these sessions and you will keep seeing increases in strength.  Stay tuned for the focus of CrossFit Hendersonville after this strength portion!  Endurance, midline stability through gymnastics, kettlebell work?  What would you like to see as a specialized focus for our program in the upcoming months?  Post to comments if you have any thoughts.

CROSSFIT SECTIONALS:

On March 6,7 CrossFit athletes from Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama will be be competing in the CROSSFIT SECTIONALS for a chance to make it to the CROSSFIT GAMES in Aromas, CA this July.  The Sectionals take place in Hunstville, AL, only an 1 1/2 drive from Hendersonville.  Do you have an interest in going to watch these CrossFit sectionals?  I am going to head down there for sure, so if you are interested in going to watch some amazing athletes let me know and we can plan to ride down together.

Click HERE to learn exactly what the CrossFit Games are.  Then, Click HERE to check out the CrossFit Games website where you can see athlete profiles, videos, some of the sectionals workouts, and info about being a spectator/athlete in these games.

INNER AFFILIATE COMPETITION:

Do you want to have a little fun with a local CrossFit box?  CrossFit CFT coach Polo Lopez, contacted me a couple weeks back about doing a weekly challenge with his athletes.  Jason Khalipa, winner of the CrossFit ’08 games and owner of CrossFit Santa Clara, has started a weekly challenge for CrossFit athletes around the world.  He announces the Challenge WOD on Monday night/Tuesday morning and you have until Thursday night to complete the workout and send in your times.  He posts the results of all the athletes on Friday.  We want to take this weekly challenge and post your times on each of our websites to see how you match up against other athletes in your local area.  These workouts can be scaled and modified so anyone can perform them.  What do you think about doing a Weekly Challenge WOD against a local affiliate?  Share your thoughts on this with me this week.

HERE is a video of the explanation of the first Challenge workout Jason posted 4 weeks ago.  More and more athletes are getting involved with this fun competition.  Remember, we will scale the workout for your level.  No need to worry about the weight that is written on the whiteboard!  This is all about you and where you are at NOW!
